"He who keeps his command will experience nothing harmful; and a wise man's heart discerns both time and judgment, because for every matter there is a time and judgment, though the misery of man increases greatly."
                                    -Ecclesiastes 8:5-6, NKJV

Time and judgment. These things are in extremely short supply, as of this writing. It seems people abandon all reason when it comes to the desires of their hearts. In fact, it is a modern maxim that is continually stated in a variety of ways: "Follow your heart." "Your heart will never steer you wrong!"

It is almost as if one should completely negate the dictates of one's head in order to make his or her heart's decisions reign supreme! This is the complete opposite of what the Bible says in Jeremiah 17:9: "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it?"

God says the heart is not to be trusted, because it is desperately wicked. To make matters worse, the heart is also deceitful, above all else! That means following your heart is absolutely the worst possible advice one can ever give or receive!

Nevertheless, we live in a society that is now in the process of determining its own course. A recent article featured an interview with Kelly Osborne, daughter of famed rock and roller, Ozzy, and media socialite, Sharon Osborne. Kelly is also the star of several television programs in her own right.

Listen to this young woman's timeless wisdom and profound observation. "We're a part of the right side of history. We're part of a time when the world is changing finally, for the good, in the sense that people are waking up......The pendulum swung so far in one direction that it's going to have to swing in the other for a little bit before we find some normal ground and we figure out what's right and what's wrong."
In other words, in this brave new world, Kelly and her ilk are the ones who are going to have to figure out what is right and what is wrong for all the rest of us. Furthermore, these young, intellectual giants, who've never had to work real jobs to make it in the real world the rest of us inhabit, are the ones we need to look to for guidance in finally righting history and determining what is right and wrong, really is!

Doesn't it make you rest more comfortably in your bed, realizing that the future of this society's moral judgments are in such capable hands? Personally, I am thankful for the God who is always right and whose word is never wrong.
What really is comforting is knowing what it says in Psalm 119:142-144: "Your righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, and Your law is truth. Trouble and anguish have overtaken me, yet Your commandments are my delights. The righteousness of Your testimonies is everlasting; Give me understanding, and I shall live."

Only God's judgments remain forever giving us guidance for what is right and what is wrong. Aren't you thankful that He is the judge? Even though, at times, our misery increases greatly and trouble and anguish have overtaken us, we can always find refuge in the truth of God's eternally abiding word!

Blessings & Peace, Brother Dan
