"For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened." --Romans 1:20-21, NKJV
There is a reason the media is constantly flooding the airwaves with fears about global climate change (I guess calling it, "global warming," didn't sound immediately threatening enough!). It is not coincidental that scientists are constantly telling us asteroids are coming closer to slamming into earth and blowing us all to bits! It is not by accident that our politicians are talking of their worries that rogue nations with EMT's are going to goad us into a nuclear powered World War III.
The constant news reports are designed to instigate anxiety into us so we will never be able to live lives of thanksgiving and praise. We are living in one of the most prosperous nations in the world that is situated in one of the most prosperous times the world has ever seen! Despite that, anti-depressants are the best selling medications in America, today. The commercials are constantly telling us we need to be taking more and more of those, "to continue the progress we are already making with the ones we are already taking."
Honestly? It seems most Americans are already over medicated as it is! It is hard to see how taking more medications will help us continue making, "progress." The reports are telling that anxiety is now the leading cause of illness in America. Seems to me that would be just as difficult to dispute as it is to calculate! While the media is trying to scare us into staying glued to the news broadcasts, the pharmaceutical industry is trying to frighten us into asking our doctors for ever more prescriptions, and the politicians are trying to scare us into upending the Constitution and the democratic processes that have held our nation in place for over 200 years! As a result, it isn't surprising that most Americans are almost incapacitated by fear and anxiety!
So is there any antidote for the anxious agitation we are experiencing? The answer is yes! The real prescription people need is found in the word of God. 2 Timothy 1:7 says: "For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind."
Fear doesn't come from God. And the opposite of fear is not courage. The opposite of fear is faith. Faith keeps things in perspective. Faith recognizes that when you aren't living in thanksgiving and praise to God, your heart fills up with the darkness of fear and anxiety. Don't live in a dark place. Don't be fooled by the fear mongering of the world. Look up, instead of just looking around! Focus your eyes on the object of your faith and you will find plenty of reasons to rejoice and live in praise and thanksgiving, instead of fear and anxiety!
